Top Sydney Markets for Handmade Finds and Unique Candles

Sydney’s bustling market scene is a paradise for those who love all things handmade, especially unique candles that bring a touch of artistry and authenticity into your home. If you’re looking for high-quality artisan candles and beautifully crafted goods, these three markets should be at the top of your list:

This image is from my first ever Sydney Finders Keepers

1. Finders Keepers Market

Finders Keepers, held in Sydney at Carriageworks, is the ultimate destination for anyone who appreciates premium handmade goods. This event is on twice a year in Sydney (typically once in summer and once in winter) and gathers some of Australia’s most talented designers and makers under one roof, offering a one-stop shop for limited-edition items.

I've had a stall at Finders Keepers a number of times now, so candle lovers will be spoiled with choices, from luxurious botanical scents to limited-edition creations in beautiful vessels.

Finders Keepers is also known for its vibrant atmosphere, making it a perfect day out with friends or family.

Highlights:

  • Top designers and high-quality craftsmanship, often from all over Australia.
  • Seasonal and unique candle scents, often inspired by Australian landscapes.
  • The chance to meet the makers behind each product.
  • Maker events like pottery and craft with good options for kids.

2. Makers and Shakers Market

Also held twice a year in the summer and winter, Makers and Shakers has a strong handmade, Australian Made focus. Makers is always held at the White Bay Cruise terminal which is in the inner west and can be annoying to get to but there's plenty of parking and public transport options available.

Makers emphasizes quality over quantity, curating a collection of vendors who are dedicated to their craft. Here, you can find candles that reflect the artistry of small-batch production, featuring natural ingredients and eco-friendly materials. The market’s cozy vibe and friendly atmosphere make it an inviting space to browse and chat with artisans.

Highlights:

  • A well-curated selection of sustainable and eco-conscious products.
  • Small-batch candles with unique scent profiles.
  • A relaxed, intimate market experience with direct access to the people making the products.
  • Pop up events, activations and Instagram-ready photo walls.

3. The Big Design Market

Big Design, for whatever reason, is the most prestigious of the three multi-day Sydney markets, and is where innovation meets creativity, with vendors from across Australia bringing their finest wares to Sydney for a few select weekends each year.

Known for its diverse range of high-quality products, Big Design offers an impressive selection of candles, homewares, and decor. The market’s lively setting makes it a fantastic way to discover candles that blend fresh design with beautiful scents.

One thing worth noting is that Big Design doesn't have an Australian Made focus so much of what you'll find is as the name suggests, designed in Australia, but potentially still manufactured overseas.

Highlights:

  • A wide selection of high-end, design-forward candles, jewellery, and homewares.
  • Primarily established brands, simply because the cost of the attending the market is quite high for makers
  • Vibrant, design-focused atmosphere perfect for discovering unique home accents.

Each of these markets brings a fresh approach to Sydney’s handmade scene, offering something unique for candle enthusiasts and design lovers alike. Whether you’re after small-batch, eco-conscious finds or bold designs, these markets have you covered.
